Catania hosts successful inaugural Trofeo Sant’Agata d’Estate
The first edition of the Trofeo Sant’Agata d’Estate took place in Catania on a hot summer evening, attracting more than a hundred athletes and a lively crowd. The five‑lap course started and finished at Piazza Università, winding along Via Etnea to Piazza Stesicoro before returning to the start. The race began at 22:00 after Mayor Enrico Trantino gave the signal and later joined the runners as a spectator.
Giovanni Arena won the men’s race after an exhausting finish that required medical oxygen, with Salvatore Geraci and Valerio Farruggio completing the podium. Virginia Salemi topped the women’s category, followed by Desiree Di Maria and Gaia Patrinicola. Organisers Peppe Leanza, President of the Agatini festivities Carmelo Grasso, and local sport officials praised the event and expressed hopes for future editions in the city, which aims to become a hub for Sicilian sport.
