Catania hosts the 76th National Liturgical Week

Catania is hosting the 76th National Liturgical Week from August 24 to 27. Organized by the Centro di Azione Liturgica (CAL), the event brings together priests, deacons, religious figures, and laity from across Italy.

The theme for the 2026 edition is ‘A Church that generates. Liturgy and Christian Initiation.’ This initiative is part of a broader synodal reflection within the Italian Church regarding the renewal of Christian initiation processes. The event is hosted by the Archdiocese of Catania and will primarily take place at the Regina Apostolorum Interdiocesan Seminary.

High-ranking Church officials are scheduled to attend, including Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, General Secretary of the CEI, and Monsignor Vittorio Francesco Viola, Secretary of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. The program includes liturgical celebrations, lectures, and group discussions focused on family, catechesis, charity, and youth. Additionally, the schedule includes a visit to the ‘Trittico agatino’ to connect the week with the 900th anniversary of the translation of Saint Agatha’s relics to Catania.
