Catania inaugurates Sacrario della Legalità to honor Salvatore Lanza

The “Sacrario della Legalità” was inaugurated in Piazza Santa Lucia, located in the Picanello district of Catania, to honor Salvatore Lanza. Lanza was a young Public Security Guard from the neighborhood who was killed in 1978 during a Red Brigades terrorist ambush in Turin.

A lava stone monument was placed in the center of the square to serve as a public landmark for the values of legality. The initiative was promoted by the II Municipality of Catania in collaboration with the Catania Police Headquarters.

The ceremony included local civil and military authorities, the victim's family, and students from local educational institutes. During the event, a marble plaque was unveiled by the Deputy Questore, Salvatore Montemagno, alongside Lanza's siblings, and the monument was blessed by the State Police Chaplain. Additionally, students from the ITS Academy Catania installed a tricolor bench as a symbol of civic commitment for younger generations.
