Catania launches €6.5 M port gate project and road works at Porta San Felice

In September, the Port of Catania will begin a €6.5 million reconstruction of its south gate, the main entry for heavy‑vehicle traffic. The project includes two 40‑metre steel arches shaped like the “A” of Saint Agata, a 10,000 m² multifunctional public park called Parco del Faro, photovoltaic panels, rain‑water harvesting, and a new road surface using low‑maintenance mix. The works are slated to finish in about a year and aim to create a sustainable, attractive gateway for the city.

Separately, the municipality has started definitive asphalt paving around Porta San Felice. The works temporarily suspend the left turn on Via Saffi, close the preferential lane on Viale Silvani, and reroute cyclists onto alternative paths. Local police are on site to manage traffic, and public‑transport routes and stops have been adjusted. Completion dates have not been set.
