Catania police arrest two men for house‑arrest breaches, seizing marijuana
Police in Catania detained a 52‑year‑old man after he left his home in violation of a court‑imposed house arrest to walk his dog. A subsequent search of his apartment uncovered about half a kilo of marijuana hidden in a non‑functioning refrigerator and a kitchen cavity, along with equipment for weighing and vacuum‑packing the drug. He was charged with evading house arrest and possession of narcotics for trafficking and placed in the Questura’s security rooms pending a direct‑trial hearing.
In a separate incident, a 33‑year‑old Catanian was also arrested for breaching house arrest after a dispute with his mother. Authorities detected tampering with his electronic monitoring bracelet, dispatched officers to his residence in the San Cristoforo district, and apprehended him while he attempted to flee. He was charged with evasion and similarly detained pending trial.
