Catania police arrest two men after motorcycle chase
Two men, aged 25 and 26, were arrested in Catania after a high-speed motorcycle chase through crowded city streets. The incident began near Piazza Risorgimento when officers from the Nibbio motorcycle unit noticed the suspects acting suspiciously.
Upon being signaled to stop, the driver attempted to evade police by weaving through traffic in a pedestrian-heavy area. Officers eventually cornered the suspects in a dead end near Corso dei Mille. During the pursuit, the passenger discarded an object, which officers later identified as a disassembled handgun, consisting of a slide and the remaining components.
The suspects face charges of illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy to receive stolen goods. Following the arrests, the Public Prosecutor at the Catania Court ordered both men to be held in prison. Forensic specialists are currently conducting ballistic tests to determine if the weapon was used in previous crimes.
