Catania police conclude summer coastal patrols and maritime rescues

The Polizia di Stato has concluded its 2026 summer coastal patrolling operations in the Catania region. Throughout the season, from early June to late September, maritime units patrolled 30 kilometers of coastline, covering a total of 2,615 nautical miles.

During these operations, authorities conducted five maritime rescues for vessels in distress and assisted boats caught in strong currents. The patrols also involved monitoring the Acitrezza Marine Protected Area. Law enforcement identified over 1,000 individuals and inspected 364 vessels, issuing nearly 60,000 euros in fines for various violations, including unauthorized anchoring, lack of insurance, and operating without a nautical license.
