Catania police conduct anti-degradation operation near Pescheria

The State Police, in coordination with the Catania Local Police, Firefighters, and municipal workers, conducted a large-scale anti-degradation operation in via Dusmet near the Pescheria in Catania. The intervention aimed to restore public decorum and return central spaces to citizens for free use.

Authorities identified several illegalities, including a kiosk owner who had unauthorizedly occupied the space under the ‘Archi della Marina’ by placing tables and chairs without paying for public land. The owner had also illegally attached a television and surveillance cameras to the lava stone. All unauthorized installations were removed.

Additionally, municipal workers removed 10 dilapidated, non-functional refrigerators that street vendors and licensed owners had placed on sidewalks and streets to store fish. The operation also involved the waste management company, Gema, which cleared large amounts of trash found in the area. Several street vendors were sanctioned for illegal occupation of public land or exceeding their permitted space.
