Catania police seize one ton of illegal fireworks

The State Police in Catania stopped a rented van near the Paesi Etnei exit on the city’s ring road and seized about a ton of pyrotechnic material. Inside were 240 fireworks products transported without any safety precautions.

The 36‑year‑old driver, a native of Siracusa, could not produce documentation proving legitimate purchase of the explosives and was charged with illegal possession and receipt of explosive material. The seized items were handed over to a specialized firm for secure storage pending their eventual destruction.
