Catania police seize weapons cache and marijuana in residential garage

The Catania police force, using a drug‑sniffing dog, searched a garage box in the Barriera‑Canalicchio district on Via del Bosco. Officers recovered about 200 g of marijuana and a large weapons cache that included a Kalashnikov rifle, a custom‑made shotgun, a submachine gun, six pistols (one disguised as a pen), assorted ammunition, three stolen scooters and two suspicious motorcycle engines. All items were seized and handed to the judicial authorities, with investigations launched to identify the owners and any links to organised crime groups such as the local Cosa Nostra clan.

The operation was carried out by the Squadra Mobile of Catania with support from Palermo and Reggio Calabria units.
