Catania police uncover fraudulent car rental website

Police in Catania have uncovered a fraudulent car rental website designed to deceive users into making payments for non-existent services. The investigation was launched by the Border Police at Vincenzo Bellini Airport following a report from a woman who believed she had successfully booked a vehicle via instant bank transfers.

Investigators determined that the website was meticulously constructed to appear authentic and reliable. By tracing the flow of money and cross-referencing IBAN codes used for transactions with the telephone numbers used to communicate with the victim, authorities identified three suspects: two 33-year-olds and one 37-year-old. The three individuals have been reported to the Prosecutor's Office on charges of conspiracy to commit fraud.
