Catania revokes 100 unauthorized disability parking spaces
The Municipality of Catania has revoked an additional 100 personalized parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities following an investigation into their eligibility. Under directive number 1209 issued on October 24, 2026, Local Police Commander Diego Peruga ordered the revocation after findings showed the original requirements for the spaces were no longer met.
Investigations covered over 1,000 positions by cross-referencing documentation with municipal registry data. The revocations were triggered by circumstances such as the death of the permit holder, changes in residency, or shifts in domicile that invalidated the need for a reserved spot.
This action is part of a rationalization plan launched at the beginning of the year, which has already resulted in the recovery of over 300 parking spaces for general use. Authorities are currently conducting further checks on another 200 spaces. To make the spaces available for standard parking, the municipal agency will remove the existing vertical and horizontal signage.
