Catania road closure on Via Nuovalucello sparks resident protests

The municipality of Catania has completely closed Via Nuovalucello for street‑work operations launched without prior notice to residents, merchants and road users. Associations CONSAAMBIENTE and Lega Difesa del Cittadino say the shutdown has caused severe disruption to traffic, hindered access to local businesses and threatened economic losses.

The groups also allege that material dumped during the works has blocked storm‑water drains, raising the risk of flooding in case of heavy rain. They are demanding that the city clarify who authorised the closure, provide alternative routing, and carry out an immediate technical inspection of the drainage system. If the authorities do not respond promptly, the associations warn they will pursue further actions to protect residents and commercial activity.

The situation remains unresolved as local stakeholders await official answers.
