Catania-Siracusa railway line suspended for four months
Regional deputy Carlo Gilistro is demanding guarantees regarding the four-month suspension of the railway line between Catania and Siracusa, which began on September 30. The closure is due to infrastructure enhancement works that will impact the entire eastern Sicilian railway backbone.
Gilistro has called for a meeting with the Regional Minister for Infrastructure and Mobility, Alessandro Aricò, along with representatives from Rfi Sicilia and the Comitato Pendolari Siciliani. The goal is to address the organization of replacement bus services to ensure they effectively mitigate the disruption for the thousands of workers and students affected.
The Comitato Pendolari Siciliani has proposed using the Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa station as a primary interchange point. This strategy aims to prevent replacement buses from having to navigate Catania's urban traffic by connecting trains from Messina directly to buses heading to Siracusa via the airport station.
