Catania water authority faces leadership crisis after mayor's suspension

Lidia Adorno, a regional deputy for the Movimento 5 Stelle, has called for an urgent meeting of the mayors from 58 municipalities within the Catania area to elect a new president for the Assemblea Territoriale Idrica (Ati).

The request follows the suspension of Adrano Mayor Fabio Mancuso, following a ruling by the Messina Court of Appeal. Adorno stated that the current situation requires more than just acting leadership through a vice president, arguing that the Ati needs a fully invested and authoritative guide to manage critical issues regarding the provincial water service.

Key concerns include ongoing legal disputes regarding the management of water services, the resolution of the convention with the current provider as of June 30, and the need for decisive leadership to protect public interest and ensure infrastructure investment and service continuity.
