Catania's cultural identity featured in Rai's ‘Radix’ program

The Rai Cultura program ‘Radix’, hosted by Edoardo Sylos Labini, will feature an episode titled ‘Catania, un vulcano d’arte’ airing on Rai3. The broadcast explores the cultural identity of Catania, examining how the city has transformed historical catastrophes, such as the 1693 earthquake and volcanic eruptions, into artistic beauty.

The program highlights the lives of two prominent figures from the city: composer Vincenzo Bellini and writer Giovanni Verga. It traces Bellini’s musical journey from his birth in Catania to his success in Milan and Paris, and follows Verga’s path from his Verismo literary breakthroughs to his eventual return to his home city.

To complete the portrait of Catania as a ‘theater city,’ the episode includes interviews with Marco Giorgetti, director of the Teatro Stabile di Catania, and actor/director Gabriele Lavia.
