Catanzaro court dismisses INPS fraud case due to statute of limitations

A court in Catanzaro has dismissed charges against 47 individuals involved in a major investigation into alleged fraud against the National Social Security Institute (INPS) in Calabria. The judge ruled that the statute of limitations had expired, preventing criminal proceedings for alleged fraud and ideological falsehood.

Prosecutors had alleged that a group used 71 fictitious employment contracts linked to specific companies to illicitly claim unemployment benefits. The estimated damage to public funds was approximately 423,000 euros. Following requests from defense lawyers and the prosecution, the court determined that the legal time limits for prosecution had passed, effectively ending the case.
