Catanzaro Court imposes three-year surveillance on suspected mafia affiliate

The Court of Catanzaro has ordered three years of special public security surveillance and a mandatory residence requirement for a 33-year-old Italian man. The decision follows a joint proposal by the Public Prosecutor and the Questore of Catanzaro, based on investigations by the Anti-Crime Police Division.

The individual is suspected of belonging to the ‘Gaglianesi’ criminal organization, a mafia group operating in the Calabrian capital. Authorities allege he utilized intimidating methods characteristic of the mafia to engage in various serious crimes, including illegal weapons possession, drug trafficking, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and aggravated robbery.

The subject has a significant criminal history, including two final convictions. In 2013, he received a sentence of three years and four months for weapons and drug offenses, and in 2021, he was convicted for involvement in a regional marijuana distribution network.
