Catanzaro court issues 16 convictions in Gallace clan trial

In a major ruling stemming from Operation Ostro, the Gup of Catanzaro has issued 16 convictions and 34 acquittals in a trial investigating the Gallace clan's alleged infiltration of Badolato municipal elections and public contracts. The verdict was heavily influenced by the court's decision to declare SkyECC encrypted chat interceptions inadmissible, as the defense successfully challenged the legality of data obtained through French investigative methods. Consequently, key figures including Cosimo Damiano Gallace and Cesare Arcorace were acquitted.

Separate criminal activities were reported across Italy. In Monza, two men from the Vibonese region were arrested for a mafia-style arson attack on an auto demolition company, causing significant economic damage. In Syracuse, four individuals received prison sentences totaling over 57 years for mafia-related crimes targeting the tourism sector in Ortigia.

Local law enforcement also reported various incidents, including the discovery of an illegal stable in Catania, a 19-year-old arrested for theft and assaulting a police officer in Pontecorvo, and a 69-year-old arrested in Ramacca for driving a stolen scooter and resisting authority.
