Catanzaro expands university presence in historic center

The Università Magna Graecia (UMG) is expanding its presence in the historic center of Catanzaro through new academic and residential initiatives. A new Master’s degree program in Primary Education Sciences will be hosted at a facility in via degli Eroi, bringing approximately 100 students to the area.

To support this expansion, the former Chimirri school has been repurposed into a university residential complex. This facility provides 143 beds and common study spaces, managed by the Fondazione Università Magna Graecia. The project is part of a strategic collaboration between Mayor Nicola Fiorita and Rector Giovanni Cuda to revitalize the city's urban core by fostering a stable presence of young people, culture, and services.

To facilitate movement between university sites and city neighborhoods, a dedicated shuttle service will be implemented. Local officials view these developments as a concrete step toward long-term urban regeneration and economic vitality for the historic district.
