Catanzaro installs new bronze Madonna statue and starts restoration of San Vitaliano reliquary bust
A bronze statue titled "Madonna del Verrino" created by sculptor Luigi Verrino was installed on a high column in the port of Catanzaro. The 2.5‑metre, 7‑quintal work was temporarily placed on the quay, blessed by Archbishop Claudio Maniago and inaugurated by Mayor Nicola Fiorita, who highlighted its symbolic value for the city’s maritime and religious traditions.
At the same time, restoration work began on the reliquary bust of San Vitaliano, the patron saint of Catanzaro. Authorized by Archbishop Maniago and carried out in cooperation with the Regional Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, the bust was moved to a secure location in the Basilica of the Immaculate. The conservation will be performed by the Adduci Restauri workshop under scientific supervision, aiming to preserve the historic and spiritual heritage for future generations.
