Catanzaro records sustained high temperatures through July and August
Catanzaro and the surrounding Calabria region experienced a prolonged period of high temperatures throughout July and August 2026. According to a technical report by Arpacal, daily average temperatures frequently exceeded the 1991-2020 climatic norms.
In Catanzaro, temperatures reached 39.3 degrees Celsius in July and 38 degrees Celsius in August. While these figures did not break all-time historical records, the report emphasizes the continuous nature of the heat and the lack of nighttime cooling.
Other areas in the province saw even more extreme values. Sellia Superiore recorded 45.1 degrees Celsius in July, nearly matching its historical maximum. Other notable readings included 43.9 degrees in Botricello and 42.1 degrees in Sellia Marina during the same month.
