Cataño special mayoral election scheduled by PNP

The New Progressive Party (PNP) has approved regulations to hold a special election on Sunday, September 27, to select a new mayor for Cataño. This follows the death of Mayor Julio Alicea Vasallo.

Fernando ‘Tato’ Cintrón, a community and sports figure known for his role with the Lancheros de Cataño baseball team, has announced his intention to run for the vacancy. Cintrón stated his decision emerged organically following requests from local residents and business owners. He has already begun coordinating with PNP leadership, including Governor Jenniffer González Colón.

The election process includes a candidacy submission period from August 31 to September 4. The ballot positions will be drawn on September 9, and the electoral register will close on September 18. Early voting for incarcerated individuals is scheduled for September 25.
