Catarman National High School student found with .45-caliber pistol

Police recovered a .45-caliber pistol, four magazines, and 10 rounds of ammunition from a 15-year-old student at Catarman National High School in Northern Samar. The incident occurred after a classmate alerted a teacher that the minor was carrying a firearm in the classroom.

The student reportedly claimed the weapon belonged to his father. Following legal protocols for a child in conflict with the law, personnel from the Women and Children Protection Desk assisted the minor, who was then referred to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) for assessment and intervention.

Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) Director Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño stated that authorities are working with school officials to strengthen security measures. The police regional office also issued a reminder to parents and guardians to secure firearms properly to prevent unauthorized access by children.
