Cate Blanchett named 2026 Praemium Imperiale laureate

The 2026 Praemium Imperiale laureates, an award often referred to as the ‘Nobel of the arts,’ have been announced by the Japan Art Association. Australian actress Cate Blanchett was selected in the category of live arts and cinema, with the jury citing her brilliant career across theatre, film, and television.

Other recipients include American artist Jenny Holzer in painting, British sculptor Andy Goldsworthy, and Polish-American architect Daniel Libeskind. The music category was awarded to centenarian conductor Herbert Blomstedt. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Tokyo on October 28.
