Cate Blanchett stars in Zellner brothers’ new sci-fi comedy ‘Alpha Gang’

First images have been released for ‘Alpha Gang’, a science fiction comedy directed by brothers David and Nathan Zellner. The film stars Cate Blanchett, who is also producing through her company, Dirty Films.

Set in 1950s Eastern Europe, the plot follows a group of extraterrestrials disguised as a 1950s-style motorcycle gang. While attempting a mission to conquer Earth, the aliens must navigate human complexities such as music, emotion, and conflict. Blanchett has described the tone of the project as ‘alien Chekhovian.’

The ensemble cast includes Léa Seydoux, Lily-Rose Depp, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Riley Keough, Doona Bae, Dave Bautista, and Chris Pine. Filming took place on location in Bulgaria and Croatia, utilizing medieval ruins, ancient fortresses, and brutalist monuments. The film is scheduled to premiere at the Telluride Film Festival and will subsequently appear at the Toronto International Film Festival.
