Cateno De Luca acquitted of defamation charges

Cateno De Luca, the Mayor of Taormina and regional parliamentarian, has been definitively acquitted of aggravated defamation charges. The ruling follows a previous annulment by the Supreme Court of Cassation regarding claims made against Vincenzo Barbaro, the former Prosecutor General of Messina.

Barbaro had previously pursued legal action and civil damages following De Luca’s public criticisms. The legal dispute stemmed from De Luca’s vocal opposition to the prosecutor’s investigations into his administration and family affairs.
