Caterina Bottari Lattes, Italian cultural foundation president, dies at 86

Caterina Bottari Lattes, born in Pisa in 1937, died on Sunday 2 August. She had served since 2009 as president of the Fondazione Bottari Lattes, an organization created to promote the artistic and publishing work of her late husband, artist‑publisher Mario Lattes. Under her leadership the foundation’s headquarters in Monforte d’Alba became a hub for exhibitions featuring artists such as Carlo Levi, Italo Cremona, Carol Rama and Amedeo Modigliani, and for literary events including the Premio Lattes Grinzane, which hosted internationally renowned writers like Haruki Murakami, Margaret Atwood and Ian McEwan. She also launched the children’s literary program Vivolibro, supported school juries for the prize, and backed the Premio Traduzione Poetica established by the University of Turin. Her grandchildren remembered her as a “serene, fighting” presence whose cultural legacy will continue to guide the foundation’s activities.
