Caterpillar power generation backlog reaches $72 billion
Caterpillar Inc. reported a significant increase in its power generation backlog, which grew 92% year-over-year to exceed $72 billion in the second quarter of 2026. This growth is largely attributed to the artificial intelligence boom and the expansion of data centers, driving demand for large generator sets and turbines. The company is working to address capacity constraints by restarting production of its 10-megawatt gas engine platform to increase capacity by approximately 1.5 gigawatts.
In related financial activity, Blue Edge Capital LLC acquired a stake of 13,179 shares in Caterpillar during the second quarter, valued at approximately $14.03 million. Meanwhile, CEO Joseph E. Creed sold 32,401 shares of the company on August 28 at an average price of $808.98, totaling over $26 million.
