Caterpillar's Power Generator Business Drives AI Data‑Center Growth
Caterpillar Inc. is benefiting from the rapid expansion of artificial‑intelligence data centers. Its power generators, which provide backup energy for facilities, have become a key component of the AI boom. In the first quarter, the company reported 22% year‑over‑year revenue growth, with the power and energy segment accounting for more than one‑third of total sales and contributing to a record $62.7 billion order backlog.
Institutional investors are also increasing their stakes. BankChampaign National Association bought 2,312 shares of Caterpillar stock, worth about $1.6 million, representing roughly 1.6% of its portfolio. Other firms such as Lam Group Inc., Torren Management LLC and Cornerstone Financial Management LLC have added new positions. At the same time, insiders including Bob Desold and CFO Andrew R. J. Bonfield have sold significant share blocks, highlighting active trading around the company.
