Cateura artisans receive Paraguay Brand license for upcycled jewelry

Artisans from Cateura, through their enterprise ‘Cateura Accesorios’ (also referred to as ‘Joyas de Cateura’), have been awarded the ‘Marca País Paraguay’ license. The group consists of women from the Bañado Sur area who specialize in transforming discarded materials from the Cateura landfill into unique pieces of jewelry.

The recognition was presented during a ceremony attended by First Lady Leticia Ocampos, Minister of Industry and Commerce Marco Riquelme, Minister of Women Alicia Pomata, and Public Defender General Javier Esquivel. The initiative is part of the ‘Exportando Sueños’ project, a collaborative effort between the Office of the First Lady, the Ministry of Public Defense, and the Ministry of Women aimed at strengthening economic opportunities and productive capacities for vulnerable women.

Officials noted that the ‘Marca País’ designation serves as a tool to increase the visibility of high-quality products that reflect Paraguayan identity and resilience. The project seeks to provide concrete income-generating alternatives by helping women turn their creative skills into sustainable livelihoods.
