Catfish (Ikan Gabus) Promoted for Postpartum Recovery in Indonesia

Nutrition experts highlight the benefits of catfish (ikan gabus) for women recovering from childbirth. The fish contains 15‑25% protein by weight, rich in albumin, omega‑3 fatty acids, calcium, phosphorus and iron. Albumin supports cell regeneration and faster wound healing after both normal delivery and Caesarean section.

Prof. Ahmad Sulaeman of IPB University recommends consuming the fish steamed or boiled to preserve nutrients, suggesting about 500 g of fresh catfish daily or 500 mg of extract per day. The advice is aimed at integrating the fish into a balanced postpartum diet to aid tissue repair and overall health.

The guidance was shared in Indonesian media outlets, emphasizing that catfish can be a nutritious component of postpartum nutrition when combined with broader dietary recommendations from health professionals.
