Cathay Financial Vice Chairman Tsai Tsung-han outlines digital strategy
Tsai Tsung-han, Vice Chairman of Cathay Financial Holding and son of Chairman Tsai Hung-tu, delivered his first public speech at the 2026 Cathay Financial Technology Annual Conference. He detailed the group's decade-long digital transformation journey, which began in 2016 with the establishment of the Digital and Data Development Center.
Tsai highlighted key achievements, including the development of the CUBE App, which has over 6 million credit card users, and the integration of Apple Pay services. He noted that while the group invested heavily in IT infrastructure, early efforts faced challenges due to a lack of understanding of frontline and customer needs. Recent initiatives include the GAIA generative AI framework and a 6-year, 8.6 billion TWD core system upgrade for Cathay United Bank.
Looking ahead, Tsai discussed the group's strategy for the next decade, emphasizing the need to move beyond the current “AI drunk” phase of market hype toward practical applications in workflow, product design, and customized asset management. He aims to strengthen corporate banking and improve communication with both employees and customers to build greater trust.
