Cathie Wood shifts ARK Invest focus from biotech to AI

Cathie Wood, founder of ARK Invest, has executed significant portfolio shifts totaling over $80 million, pivoting away from biotechnology toward artificial intelligence. Recent trades include substantial sales in companies such as Twist Bioscience, 10x Genomics, and Illumina, alongside a $19.6 million sale of Roblox. Conversely, Wood increased positions in AI and infrastructure-related firms, including Broadcom, Cloudflare, and Cerberus Cyber Sentinel.

Wood has also highlighted a dramatic decline in the cost of AI computing, noting that the average price per million tokens for large language models dropped from $2.07 to $1.02 in a matter of weeks. She attributes this price compression to aggressive cuts from OpenAI and the emergence of cheaper open-source alternatives like DeepSeek and Kimi. Wood describes this trend as a “virtuous cycle,” where lower prices drive increased demand and usage, which in turn funds further technological development and further price reductions.
