Cathinka Rondan to depart as NRK radio chief

Cathinka Rondan is stepping down from her position as radio chief at NRK on October 1. Her departure follows a structural reorganization at the broadcaster, which will transition from having a radio chief, a web chief, and a chief commissioner to a new model featuring a head of content and media alongside a publishing editor. Rondan, who joined NRK from Rubicon in 2019, described the role as her ‘dream job’ and noted that she helped design the reorganization.

During the Lyddager industry event, media leaders discussed the industry's response to the death of King Harald. NRK implemented immediate simultaneous broadcasts across all 13 channels, while P4 merged its channels into a single broadcast. Bauer Media adapted its various brands by adjusting music profiles and content. Industry representatives noted that radio listenership increased by 6% on the day of the King's death, with Bauer reporting one of its strongest days in recent history.

Additionally, the event highlighted the state of the podcast industry. Guttorm Andreasen of the Norwegian Podcast Association noted that while video podcasts are dominant in larger international markets, the Norwegian market remains primarily audio-focused, with video podcasts accounting for only 6% to 7% of output.
