Catholic archbishops urge forgiveness and communal unity

Catholic leaders in Argentina and Bolivia have delivered recent homilies focusing on spiritual and communal virtues.

In Buenos Aires, Archbishop Jorge García Cuerva emphasized the necessity of permanent forgiveness. Drawing from the Book of Sirach and Gospel parables, he argued that while anger is a natural reaction to offense, it should not transform into lasting resentment. He noted that forgiveness is an attitude of the heart rather than an erasure of memory, suggesting that viewing reconciliation through one's relationship with God makes it more accessible.

In Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Archbishop René Leigue addressed the issues of envy and competition within the religious community. Using the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard from the Gospel of Matthew, he urged believers to move past comparisons and merit-based judgments. He cautioned against the envy and slander that can arise when observing divine grace, calling on the faithful to focus on their own life testimonies and the mission to make disciples.
