Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane proposes office building in Fortitude Valley
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane has submitted planning documents to the Brisbane City Council for a new eight-storey commercial office building in Fortitude Valley. The proposed development, part of the Arbory Precinct, would be located on the Morgan Street site immediately south-west of the heritage-listed St Patrick’s Church.
According to the town planning firm Urbis, the project is intended to generate a long-term commercial income stream to fund the ongoing operation and conservation of the historic church. The design, by architecture firm Blight Rayner, includes a new pedestrian arcade connecting Morgan and Berwick streets through the church grounds. This space is intended to function as an ‘urban common’ featuring landscaping, seating, a cafe, and a building lobby.
The development site spans approximately 10,690 square metres and falls within the Fortitude Valley neighbourhood plan area, which supports mixed-use and commercial growth.
