Catholic communities celebrate Assumption of Mary across the region

Across Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, numerous Catholic shrines and parishes celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15, 2026.

In Croatia, major celebrations occurred at the Trsat sanctuary in Rijeka, attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, and in Marija Bistrica, where Archbishop Dražen Kutleša addressed pilgrims. Other significant gatherings took place in Dubrovnik, Aljmaš, Široki Brijeg, and various islands such as Iž. Religious leaders emphasized themes of hope, spiritual responsibility, and the importance of caring for the environment and the community.

In Montenegro, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Davor Božinović attended Mass in Tivat, where he discussed bilateral relations and Montenegro's path toward EU membership. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, pilgrims gathered in Široki Brijeg for traditional masses and festivities.
