Catholic Church calls for burial mechanisms for unclaimed infants in Mexico

The Catholic Church in Mexico is calling on sanitary, forensic, and local government authorities to establish mechanisms for the dignified burial of aborted, abandoned, or unclaimed infants.

In an editorial for the weekly publication 'Desde la Fe', the Archdiocese of Mexico requested that, once all legal and forensic procedures are completed, the remains of these infants be handed over to legally accredited institutions and associations. The Church stated that this initiative should be facilitated nationwide to ensure respect for human dignity and to provide consolation to families.

The Church noted that it is frequent in Mexico to encounter cases of advanced-gestation fetuses or newborns being abandoned in public spaces, hospitals, or waste areas. Additionally, the Archdiocese pointed out that some families experiencing gestational loss are unaware that they may be legally permitted to request the remains of their children for burial.
