Catholic Church calls for decent work and labor dignity

In observance of the World Day for Decent Work on October 7, the Catholic Church in Spain, through the Dioceses of Segorbe-Castellón and Sigüenza-Guadalajara, has issued calls for reflection on labor dignity and economic ethics.

Church leaders emphasize that work is an essential dimension of human life and should serve the person rather than the economy. Decent work is defined by sufficient wages, job stability, safety, and the ability to balance professional duties with family life. The messages highlight the risks of modern labor issues, including chronic precariousness, insufficient wages, abusive temporary contracts, and the mental health impacts of job instability.

Specific concerns were raised regarding the vulnerability of women and migrants, the rise in workplace accidents, and the challenges posed by digital disconnection. The Church advocates for an economic model that prioritizes human dignity over exclusive profit, calling for updated occupational risk prevention laws and the protection of workers' rights to ensure the workplace remains a space for personal realization.
