Catholic Church celebrates 100th World Mission Sunday

The Catholic Church is preparing to celebrate the 100th World Mission Sunday on October 18, 2026. Established by Pope Pius XI in 1926, this centenary edition features the theme ‘One in Christ, united for the mission,’ as designated by Pope Leo XIV. The theme emphasizes unity among disciples as a means to strengthen the credibility and impact of their testimony, while distinguishing such unity from mere uniformity.

In Spain, the Pontifical Mission Societies (OMP) are launching the ‘El Domund al descubierto’ initiative in Vitoria. This twelfth edition of the exhibition aims to bring the reality of missionary work in Africa, America, Asia, and Oceania to the general public. The event will be presented by Father José María Calderón, the national director of OMP, and Bishop Juan Carlos Elizalde of Vitoria, highlighting the mission's role in providing material cooperation to impoverished and excluded regions.
