Catholic Church commemorates Saints John Kanty and John Capistran
The Catholic Church observes the feast days of several historical figures, including Saint John Kanty and Saint John Capistran.
Saint John Kanty, born in Kęty in 1390, was a professor and rector at the Krakow Academy. He was known for using his own resources and the sale of his manuscripts to support poor students and pilgrims. He held various academic and ecclesiastical positions, including dean and rector of Collegium Maius.
Saint John Capistran, an Italian-born Franciscan, spent time in Krakow delivering sermons and contributed to the development of the Bernardine Order. His death in 1456 is noted in the liturgical calendar. Additionally, the Church honors Saint Joseph Bilczewski, a professor and rector in Lviv who provided aid during wartime crises.
