Catholic Church confronts AI, abuse and authenticity at international symposium and Corpus Domini

Twenty‑three nuns from around the world gathered in Rome for the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) symposium, where they discussed challenges facing the Church including artificial intelligence, synodality, spiritual authority and the abuse of adult women. Sr. Katharina Ganz represented the Oberzell Franciscan community and reported on presentations exposing how power imbalances can enable spiritual and sexual abuse, calling for deep reforms of Church law and authority structures.

On the same day, a commentary linked the Corpus Domini celebration to the rise of AI‑generated avatars that flood social media and political discourse. It warned that such virtual figures can mislead non‑digital natives, erode the sense of real presence, and undermine the tangible reality of the Eucharist, urging the faithful to prioritize genuine, embodied community over digital surrogates.
