Catholic Church enters implementation phase of Synod on Synodality
Two years after the conclusion of the Synod on Synodality, the Catholic Church has entered a phase focused on implementing the outcomes of the three-year global listening and dialogue process. Initiated by Pope Francis, the synodal process involved worldwide diocesan consultations, listening sessions, and discernment among clergy, religious, and laity to identify common themes for improving local parishes.
Auxiliary Bishop Juan Miguel Betancourt, chair of the Synod Implementation and Evaluation Task Force at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, noted that the process is not considered finished. Instead, the Church is moving toward a period of celebrating emerging changes and developments. This progression is expected to move from the diocesan level to national, continental, and eventually the global Church, with a significant milestone of celebration planned for 2028.
