Catholic Church in Brazil launches housing rights initiatives

The Catholic Church in Brazil is launching initiatives centered on the 2026 Campanha da Fraternidade theme, ‘Fraternidade e Moradia’ (Fraternity and Housing), to address housing rights and social inequality.

In Votuporanga, the Diocese held a public hearing at the City Council to discuss the challenges of dignified housing. Bishop Dom Moacir Aparecido de Freitas emphasized that housing is a social right protected by Article 6 of the Brazilian Constitution and noted that the campaign serves as a tool for social mobilization and awareness.

In Curitiba, the Archdiocese has opened its second call for social project applications through the Diocesan Solidarity Fund (FDS). The fund, supported by resources from the National Solidarity Collection, aims to finance initiatives that combat social exclusion and promote access to adequate housing, aligning with the campaign's goal of addressing the inequalities faced by many Brazilians.
