Catholic Church in England and Wales Strengthens Safeguarding Policies
The Community of Our Lady of Walsingham (COLW) released a comprehensive safeguarding policy for children, young people and adults at risk. The statement affirms COLW’s commitment to the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA) and the One Church Approach, requiring members and volunteers to report all allegations of abuse to statutory authorities. COLW is a member of the Religious Life Safeguarding Service (RLSS) and provides contact details for its safeguarding lead, Sr Theresa Weight.
In the Diocese of Manchester, churches are invited to observe Safeguarding Sunday on 15 November. The event, coordinated by the Christian safeguarding charity Thirtyone:eight, encourages congregations to reflect on the theme “Love Protects,” raise awareness, and support those who serve in safeguarding roles. Resources are offered to help churches plan services and activities that promote safe, respectful environments.
