Catholic Church leaders call for fair wages and social dignity

Religious leaders in Honduras and Chile have issued calls for social justice and national unity during recent liturgical celebrations.

In Honduras, the Catholic Church, through messages from Archbishop José Vicente Nácher, emphasized that wages should not be determined solely by market forces. Citing Catholic doctrine and the teachings of Pope Leo XIV, the Church argued that a fair salary must prioritize human dignity and ensure that workers and their families can maintain a dignified life.

In Chile, various Te Deum ceremonies were held to mark the nation's independence. In Santiago, Cardinal Fernando Chomalí addressed the need to rebuild the country based on trust and work, specifically identifying corruption as a major obstacle. In Temuco, Bishop Jorge Concha Cayuqueo called for dialogue and participation to address regional inequalities. Meanwhile, in Ancud, Bishop Juan María Agurto announced social initiatives, including support for a long-term care facility for the elderly and a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities.
