Catholic Church leaders call for peace amid Mexican violence

Catholic Church leaders in Mexico are calling for peace and order in response to escalating violence, particularly in the state of Sinaloa. The Bishop of Veracruz, Carlos Briseño Arch, has expressed support for a peace march organized by the Diocese of Culiacán, scheduled for September 13. The mobilization, led by Culiacán Bishop Jesús José Herrera Quiñónez, aims to gather citizens to demand security and tranquility following nearly two years of intense conflict in the northwest region.

Bishop Briseño Arch emphasized the need to foster a culture of peace and unity, noting that authorities have a pending debt to the population of Sinaloa, which has faced months of fear and uncertainty. The Archdiocese of Xalapa also issued a statement addressing the climate of insecurity and social delays in Veracruz and throughout Mexico, urging the faithful to act as agents of change and support for the most vulnerable populations, including those affected by crime and unemployment.
