Catholic Church reorganizes Marche dioceses to align with civil borders
The Dicastery for Bishops, with the approval of Pope Leo XIV, has issued a decree to reorganize the territorial boundaries of the Camerino-San Severino Marche and Fabriano-Matelica dioceses in Italy. The restructuring follows a discernment process led by the Marche Episcopal Conference and aims to align ecclesiastical boundaries with the civil provinces of Ancona and Macerata.
Under the new configuration, the town of Matelica and its associated parishes will be incorporated into the Archdiocese of Camerino-San Severino Marche. Consequently, this jurisdiction will be renamed the Archdiocese of Camerino-San Severino Marche-Matelica.
Conversely, the parishes of Serra San Quirico and Mergo, which belong to the province of Ancona, will be transferred to the Diocese of Fabriano. As a result of these changes, the Diocese of Fabriano-Matelica will be renamed the Diocese of Fabriano. Monsignor Francesco Massara will maintain pastoral leadership over both dioceses in persona Episcopi.
