Catholic Church updates pastoral guidance on synodality and family
The Church of Milan has released a new pastoral note titled ‘Abitare il mondo, in comunione per la missione’ (Inhabiting the world, in communion for the mission). Formulated by the diocesan synodal team, the document was presented by Archbishop Delpini at the Milan Duomo. The updated text clarifies the objectives of decanal synodal assemblies, emphasizing their role in engaging with the secular world and the daily lives of the laity rather than remaining confined within parish boundaries.
In a separate but related development regarding church governance and family, celebrations were held in St. Peter's Square to mark the tenth anniversary of the apostolic exhortation ‘Amoris laetitia’. During the event, Pope Leo XIV emphasized the importance of marital love, family spirituality, and support for those in fragile or crisis situations. The discussions highlighted a shift toward viewing families not merely as recipients of pastoral care, but as active subjects capable of contributing to the discernment and life of local church communities.
